“My time on Ryder Farm has absolutely changed my outlook on my self and my career. I went in feeling like a student and left feeling like a professional with steps ahead that are clear, doable and exciting. I have never felt so capable and prepared to face the challenges of being an emerging playwright in NYC.”
-Chloé Hayat, Greenhouse Resident 2018
Information for the 2024 Greenhouse Residency will be announced in Spring 2024
"I truly left SPACE feeling more confident and sure of my art and ‘plan’ as a playwright more than I ever have. I loved meeting, learning, and talking with the other residents as well as SPACE staff. It was awesome to be surrounded by so many talented and passionate artists.”
-Celeste Jennings, Greenhouse Residency 2019
Residents are housed in Ryder Farm’ Kay Hall and provided with artistic and administrative resources. The only requirements at SPACE are that residents attend three communal, farm-sourced meals each day and share some of what they’ve developed while in residence. Please see SPACE’s FAQ page for information about diets and food allergies SPACE’s chefs are able to accommodate.
All time in-residence is fully subsidized. Additionally, residents will receive a travel stipend for local and tri-state area travel. For reference, a round-trip off-peak Metro-North ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Brewster is $30. Transportation between the Brewster Station and Ryder Farm is provided by the SPACE team on the first and last days of the residency.
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates, who must be 18 or older, will be nominated by a SPACE-affiliated practicing artist who works with young theater writers.
You are or will be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the time of the residency, or are otherwise willing to comply with SPACE's COVID-19 safety protocols.
