SPACE’s artistic philosophy is simple: artists and social activists need the time and space to do what they do best--create. Through our signature artistic residency programs, SPACE strives to create a singular environment on Ryder Farm, one that eliminates obstacles to creation.

SPACE is deeply committed to the belief that inclusion, equity, support and radical hospitality are not only important to creation, but are vital in fueling dialogue that leads to lasting change.

In June of 2020, SPACE published a nine-step anti-racism action plan to hold us accountable in our work towards being a more inclusive and equitable organization. We updated that plan in October of 2020.

For all of our programs, we aim to gather diverse groups, in every sense of the word. We firmly believe that in all endeavors—from artistic creation, to agriculture, to democracy—what we create and grow is stronger when there are more and different perspectives at the table.

"The breathtaking, spiritually stirring beauty of the place, the nature that's within its acres, the lake, woods, plants, animals, birds and insects that live here have brought out and inspired a passion for trying to create something visual that I never knew I had." -  David Cale, The Working Farm '15 and Creative Resident '18 & ‘19
