An intimate open house at SPACE on Ryder Farm
Celebrate the beginning of Autumn with SPACE on Ryder Farm with an afternoon of food, community, and music. On September 9, 2023 from 4PM to 6PM enjoy a seasonal taste of the resident culinary experience featuring produce fresh from the farm and prepared by Chef Min Liao. Julian Hornik, the 2023 recipient of SPACE’s Bryan Gallace/Posthumous Prodigy Productions Fellowship, will give a feature performance.
ABOUT JULIAN HORNIK
Julian has performed his work at, amongst others, the Kennedy Center, New York City Center, Ars Nova, Joe’s Pub, Symphony Space, Davies Symphony Hall, Stanford Live, and the Yale School of Drama. His commission from the New York and Los Angeles Gay Men’s Choruses commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots premiered in 2019 at Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Hall, respectively. His song-cycle commissioned by the SF Gay Men’s Chorus, @QueerZ, has been performed by queer choruses across the country. Film and TV credits include Share (A24 & HBO Films) and animated musical series Helluva Boss.
Julian is the recipient of the 2017 Lucille and Jack Yellen Award and the 2018 Sammy Cahn Award from the ASCAP Foundation, as well as Yale’s Norman Holmes Pearson Prize. He is a 2020 Jonathan Larson Grant finalist, and is the 2023 Bryan Gallace Fellow at SPACE on Ryder Farm. Shows developed with The Civilians, the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Project, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, Vineyard Arts, the Orchard Project, and Stanford University.
ABOUT SPACE ON RYDER FARM
Ryder Farm is one of the oldest continuously held family farms on the East Coast, first established by Eleazer Ryder in 1795 and stewarded through the years by successive generations of the Ryder Family. SPACE assumed management of the farm’s agricultural operations in 2019. An early adopter in the organic farming movement in the 1980’s, the farm was certified organic in 2004, and continues to be today.
Founded in 2011, SPACE is an artist residency program that welcomes creators of all types—playwrights, authors, social activists, non-profit organizations, lyricists, musicians, and more. SPACE has grown to serve over 1,400 residents, established one of the first and only residencies for parent-artists and their children, mentored over 75 young professionals through its internship and fellowship program and become one of the most sought-after artist residency programs in the country. Counted among its alumni are Academy Award winners, Tony Award nominees and winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, Guggenheim fellows, Obie Award winners, and MacArthur “Genius” Fellows.
