Information about 2024 Creative Residencies will be announced in Fall 2023.

Creative Residencies provide individual artists, innovators and small groups (up to four people) with the opportunity to create and ideate in the company of others away from the stress and noise of everyday life. Residency is granted to individuals and small groups who have a compelling artistic vision, lay out specific objectives for their residency, and whose work aligns with SPACE’s mission and values

Residents are housed in Ryder Farm’s historic buildings and provided with artistic and administrative resources. The only requirements at SPACE are that residents attend three communal, farm-sourced meals each day, give back  two to three hours of their time to Ryder Farm, and share some of what they’ve developed while in residence. Please see SPACE’s FAQ page for information about diets and food allergies SPACE’s chefs are able to accommodate.

All time in residence is fully subsidized. Residents cover their travel to and from the farm. For reference, a round-trip off-peak Metro-North ticket from Grand Central Terminal to Brewster is $30. Transportation between the Brewster Station and Ryder Farm is provided by the SPACE team.

“I will never forget the compassion and support I received at SPACE, how I was welcomed in with such enthusiasm and love, after a year of profound darkness and isolation. Over my two weeks on the farm, I was able to relearn what it means to live in community, side by side with other artists -- and to feel the momentum that comes from creating alongside, in real space and time, with other human beings. I left my residency more committed than ever to finding meaning and beauty in hard things; SPACE showed me how possible this is.”

- Lu Chekowsky, Creative Resident 2021

“You'd think that a writer would adequately be able to describe something they love, but when it comes to SPACE I lose language. I can't tell you how special my experience there has been: I've never worked so productively in my life. Processes that would have taken me months, took me hours, and my conversations with fellow residents helped shape my work and spirit in ways I am so thankful for. It's a place that I'm going to carry with me forever, I think.”
- Arabelle Sicardi, Creative Resident 2018
