401K / Retirement

SPACE offers a 401K plan through Guideline. At this time, SPACE does not have an employer match on our 401K program, but we are hopeful that we will in the future.

Company Property

All full-time employees will be issued a laptop that will remain the property of SPACE. Employees will be required to follow SPACE’s policies regarding use of company property, outlined in the Workplace Policies section of this handbook.

If company property is damaged by the employee in an instance where the employee is at fault (i.e., a computer screen breaks after being dropped, a charger stops working after negligent use, etc.), the employee will have to pay for any repairs to the property.

If the item of property malfunctions or is otherwise damaged where the employee is not at fault (i.e., technological items malfunction due to regular wear and tear, a laptop’s graphics card stops working, etc.), SPACE will pay for repairs. In such an instance, the employee must notify their supervisor. The supervisor will assess the damage to the best of their knowledge and collaborate with the employee to make arrangements for the property to be repaired. All repairs will be made by servicers approved by the COO. The employee must receive a receipt from the servicer and provide it to their supervisor, who will then log it as a departmental expense.

Health Insurance Salary Increment

SPACE will add a pro-ratable (as ordinary, taxable income) sum of $500 per month on top of full time, full year employees’ base salary in connection with providing support toward their personal health insurance expenses. For example, if your health insurance premium is $450/month, SPACE will add $450 of ordinary, taxable income to your paycheck, generally split across two consecutive paychecks. It is mutually understood and agreed that SPACE may, at its sole discretion, elect to make an employer-provided insurance plan available to employees in lieu of this Health Insurance Salary Increment.

Social Security

As a legally mandated benefit, SPACE complies with all applicable laws regarding Social Security. All employees are required to participate jointly with SPACE in the federal Social Security system.

Illness and Return to Work

SPACE on Ryder Farm reserves the right to require a health care provider’s certificate prior to or following an employee’s medical leave.

An employee absent for medical reasons for more than five (5) days in a row (or any 5 days in a two week period) must bring a note from a health care provider certifying that the employee is fit to return to work.

Unemployment Compensation

As a legally mandated benefit, SPACE complies with all applicable laws regarding Unemployment Compensation. All employees who become unemployed–other than through their own fault–will be eligible for unemployment insurance compensation in the manner and to the extent provided by the State Unemployment Insurance Law.
