SPACE Community Compact

SPACE’s residency programs offer a unique and dynamic atmosphere that nourishes residents both individually and communally. The community at SPACE includes residents, staff members, neighbors from the surrounding community, members of our board of directors, other visiting stakeholders. Some members of the Ryder family also live on the farm.

SPACE values inclusion, equity, support and radical hospitality. We aspire to reflect these values in every part of our organization and in all of our interactions. When you arrive on Ryder Farm – whether as a resident, a member of the team, or an attendee at a SPACE event – you are not merely a guest, but a co-creator of a community and a collaborator in actualizing the values we hold dear. We hope you will use your time at SPACE to contribute to this community in personally meaningful ways, while also caring for yourself and taking time to find inspiration and relaxation here.

This compact serves as one way to respect and protect the vibrant group of artists, activists, residents, farmers, and staff members at SPACE.

The Compact:

SPACE does not tolerate any discrimination, including (but not limited to) on the basis of race, citizenship status, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender expression, trans* identity, disability, age, professional experience, caretaker status or socio-economic class.

Bullying or hate speech of any kind is not tolerated – including in person, written, via social media, email, or phone. This includes jokes and caricatures of individuals which may offend. We ask all community members to be mindful of the impact of their words and actions on others regardless of their intentions.

We do not tolerate sexual harassment, unwanted sexual attention, violence, or threats of violence of any kind.

We ask everyone on the farm to:

  • Respect all members of the SPACE community

  • Respect and care for the Ryder Farm grounds (including structures, farming facilities, animals, and the natural surroundings)

  • Comply with requests from our team regarding SPACE’s operational procedures and emergency needs

If a community member or visitor makes others feel physically or psychologically unsafe, or breaks the compact in any way, the SPACE team can ask this person to leave the property immediately.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above, or believe another person at SPACE on Ryder Farm is not meeting these values and expectations, please reach out to the SPACE staff member that you feel most comfortable with or our HR rep and Chief Operating Officer Allyson Davis for assistance at allyson@spaceonryderfarm.org.

I have read and understand the above and by signing below agree to practice and embody these values and ethos to my fullest extent during my time at SPACE.
